The good news is you’re not alone. Did you know?

• Fewer teenagers than ever are drinking alcohol
• Underage binge drinking has steadily declined over the past decade
• Six out 10 teens have never consumed alcohol

Are you concerned about a friend who may be drinking too much? Here are a few signs to watch for:

  • Changes in mood, including anger and irritability
  • Academic or behavioral problems in school
  • Changing groups of friends or withdrawing from their usual social circle
  • Less interest in activities or care about their appearance

One of the most important things you can do to help the young people you love resist the urge to experiment with underage drinking is to talk to them.

• From 2003 to 2021, conversations between children and their parents increased by 38%, and during this same period, underage drinking decreased by 44% 2
• 60% of teens cite their parents as having the most influence in their decision-making around underage drinking 3
• 80% of teens feel that parents should have a say in whether or not they drink alcohol 4
