Talk It Out NC Gets Support from ACC Commissioner John Swofford

ACC commissioner John Swofford discusses his partnership with Talk It Out NC.

Talk It Out NC is excited for the ringing endorsement from John Swofford, the Commissioner of the Atlantic Coast Conference since 1997. Swofford is calling on all parents, coaches, doctors, and citizens of North Carolina, to Start the Conversation with young people and athletes about the dangers of underage drinking. Under his thoughtful leadership, the ACC has expanded its roster from nine to 15 participating colleges. In addition to being the longest-tenured Commissioner of the ACC, Swofford was instrumental in the creation of the ACC Network, the newest partnership between the ACC and ESPN.

Honoring Commissioner Swofford

Among his extensive portfolio of awards and honors, Commissioner Swofford is a member of numerous Halls of Fame, including the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Commissioner Swofford has some of his athletic roots in Chapel Hill, as the Athletic Director for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1980 to 1997. Another member of North Carolinaroyalty, current UNC Football Coach, Mack Brown, has also pledged his support for Talk It Out. Commissioner Swofford is another addition to the growing catalog of endorsements Talk It Out has received from North Carolina icons.

Take the Pledge to Tackle Underage Drinking

Following our successful partnership with the North Carolina Coaches Association at their annual clinic, Talk It Out NC is committed to reaching coaches and student-athletes across the state. With our Coach/Athlete Pledge Program, coaches are encouraged to Take the Pledge with their student-athletes to end underage drinking. Due to how powerful the relationship between coaches and athletes is, Talk It Out wants to encourage coaches to Start the Conversation early.
