Talk It Out NC Video: 4 Families Impacted By Underage Drinking

North Carolina has an underage drinking problem. Every year, underage drinking causes more than 100 deaths and thousands of injuries in our state.

We sat down with four individuals whose lives have been seriously impacted by underage drinking.

In this video, you’ll hear the stories of:

  • Peggy, mother
    • In 2001, Peggy’s son Josh was 18 years old and crashed his vehicle into an abutment after driving while intoxicated. After waking from a five-month coma, Josh had a long and arduous recovery and will suffer from brain damage for the rest of his life.
  • Steve, father
    • Steve’s son Joseph was killed instantly when the car he was riding in slammed into a tree. The driver was underage and had been drinking.
  • Autumn, 17 years old
    • In 2013, Autumn was involved in a car wreck. Three of her friends were killed, and Autumn was critically injured.
  • Nancy, mother
    • Nancy’s daughter was killed in an accident after attending a party where the hosts were serving alcohol to underage children.
