North Carolina leaders are fighting back against what they call an unacceptable trend of underage drinking.

The ABC Commission launched a statewide initiative Wednesday in south Charlotte, saying that two young people die every week in the state from underage drinking incidents.

They said the average underage drinker in the state is just 14 years old.

“This initiative is all about starting the conversation and not having it one sided. It’s supposed to be between the parents and the children,” parent Peggy Bennett said.

The governor said the problem is so big that he’s creating a task force to protect children across the state.
